Complex regional pain syndrome
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a poorly understood condition. A person experiences persistent severe and debilitating pain. Most cases are caused by an injury. However the pain is much more severe and long-lasting than normal. 
The pain is usually confined to the area of injury. Sometimes it can spread to other parts of the body.
The skin at the accident site can become sensitive. Even a slight touch, bump or a change in temperature can cause intense pain. The area can also become swollen, stiff or undergo fluctuating changes in colour or temperature.
