£20m in Compensation

£20m in Compensation

The NHS has paid £20m in compensation after botched operations left 450 patients injured by Anthony Dixon following Colorectal operations.

Anthony Dixon, 65, was removed from the medical register last year following two separate tribunal hearings. They determined he had engaged in professional misconduct. He performed procedures at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, operated by North Bristol NHS Trust. He also operated at private facilities run by Spire and Circle. Internal investigations identified 203 instances of harm at Southmead Hospital and 259 cases at Bristol’s Spire facility. A smaller number involving Circle Health patients.

He was found to have implanted surgical mesh without obtaining proper informed consent, neglected to discuss alternative treatments, and falsified patient documentation.

The greatest sadness involved Lucinda Methuen-Campbell who ended her own life following treatment by the surgeon. The surgeon allegedly informed her that he had removed her ovaries during the operation. He told her they “were in the way” and implanted a vaginal mesh leaving her in constant pain.

North Bristol NHS Trust confirmed Dixon was dismissed in 2019 and stated it had conducted a comprehensive review of affected patients.

If you have been affected then it is not too late to claim. No one should be left without investigation and recourse. £20m in compensation may seem like a lot of money but lives have been forever altered and there is no price for that.
