Asherman’s Syndrome Adhesions
Asherman’s Syndrome Adhesions are painful and debilitating.
An Asherman’s experience involves scar tissue (adhesions) forming in the uterus, often after uterine surgery (like a D&C) or infection. This leads to symptoms such as very light or abse
nt periods, severe cramping, infertility, and recurrent miscarriages. It causes significant emotional distress, isolation, and a challenging journey to diagnosis and effective treatment. Treatment typically involves hysteroscopic surgery to remove the adhesions and hormone therapy. Patients often describe a profound sense of despair, feeling their experiences aren’t understood by healthcare providers, and facing complex fertility treatment.
We are specialists in Asherman’s syndrome and understand the nature of the condition and its effects on the body and mind.
It occurs following surgical management of a miscarriage. The resultant effects, are reduced or absent menstruation. Sadly with 1 in 4 pregnancies result in miscarriage in the UK. Many women are not quickly or adequately diagnosed. Few are offered effective treatment other than hysterectomy.
