Client Story – Asherman’s Syndrome and Infertility
We are happy to share our Client Story – Asherman’s Syndrome and Infertility. Names have been changed but we believe her story to be of importance. Abigail’s journey with intrauterine adhesions is one of the hardest things to deal with in infertility. Abigail was diagnosed with Asherman’s syndrome, a condition where adhesions form inside the uterus following a D&C from a previous miscarriage.
She lost her son when at 18 weeks pregnant. She was distraught and whilst still processing the loss she was advised to have surgery to remove the foetus rather than wait and either let things occur naturally or medication. Not being able to consider her options due to her immediate grief she agreed to surgery. She was not warned of the risks of D&C.
Following the procedure her periods did not return. She was then diagnosed with Asherman’s Syndrome. Asherman’s syndrome is an acquired condition where scar tissue (adhesions) form inside your uterus. The scar tissue can build up, decreasing the amount of open space inside your uterus. Women with Asherman’s syndrome may experience light or no periods, pelvic pain or infertility.
Abigail sought surgery to remove the adhesions and treatment to prevent the return of these adhesions. The surgery was successful and she recently welcomed her daughter. She brought a claim for compensation which was successfully settled so that all of her treatment costs were recovered. We are so happy to have played a part in helping Abigail become a mother.
