Concerns Raised Over Filshie Clips in Sterilisation
Concerns Raised Over Filshie Clips in Sterilisation that migrate and cause pain.
Filshie clips are medical devices designed to provide permanent birth control. The clips are placed on the outside of both fallopian tubes as tubal ligation. They act as clamps to block the pathway for eggs to travel from the ovaries to the uterus.
We are raising concerns that there is a failure to warn patients about the risk of Filshie clips when contemplating sterilisation. Women are not warned about foreign body reaction that can cause chronic pain. They are not being warned that the planned sterilisation procedure involves the use of medical device that can migrate.
There is lack of adequate explanation about the associated material risks of pregnancy following migration many years later.
Women are not being told about the available alternative surgical sterilisation procedures that do not involve the use of a permanent medical device.
These small devices, designed to provide permanent sterilisation, have left some women dealing with severe pain, internal bleeding, and other serious health issues that have dramatically impacted their quality of life.
