Fibroid Drug Saves Women from Hysterectomy

Fibroid Drug Saves Women from Hysterectomy

Fibroid Drug Saves Women from Hysterectomy which is an excellent development in women’s health. NICE specifically recommends Yselty (linzagolix) for use on the NHS. It is used to treat moderate-to-severe endometriosis symptoms and fibroids. If you have tried previous medical or surgical treatments then try a daily oral GnRH antagonist such as this.

Women can now avoid radical surgery by way of hysterectomy. Those with heavy menstrual bleeding, fibroids or endometriosis are treated with medication until natural menopause.

It must be prescribed alongside hormonal add-back therapy (low-dose HRT). This is to manage potential side effects like hot flushes or bone density loss. The medication works by reducing estrogen levels (medical menopause) to ease pain. It is intended for patients where previous treatments have not successfully managed their symptoms.

Patients should consult their GP or specialist to discuss if this new treatment is suitable for their specific condition.

Contraindications include:

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients listed
• Pregnancy or breast-feeding
• Known osteoporosis
• Genital bleeding of unknown aetiology
• Contraindications related to ABT should be respected if concomitant ABT is given
