Klazinga and Welsh Health Board
We are taking on new cases involving Klazinga and Welsh Health Board gynaecological negligence. We can help you if you have been affected.
Twenty-five women have received compensation from a Welsh health board following gynaecological surgery carried out by a single surgeon. We have assisted the majority of women affected.
S4C’s current affairs programme Y Byd ar Bedwar investigated the work of gynaecological surgeon Derek Klazinga, who was employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board between 2002 and 2016.
The health board acknowledged that patients were not fully informed about alternative treatment options or the potential risks and side effects of procedures, including those involving TVT and TVT-O vaginal mesh, before surgery took place although without admission of liability.
We helped Kerry Watson from Kinmel Bay, north Wales obtain compensation for her injury.
Kerry underwent surgery in 2014 at the age of 29 after being diagnosed with bladder prolapse. During the procedure, two types of artificial mesh were implanted. She says she was not adequately informed of the risks involved.
Following the operation, Kerry experienced severe and ongoing pain and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in 2024.
In 2023, after discovering we were bringing legal action against the health board in relation to surgery carried out by Mr Klazinga Kerry contacted us. We were able to secure compensation for Kerry which will assist her in the future.
There is an absolute failure of the Government to introduce a financial redress agency for victims of the mesh scandal. The blanket denial of liability from the NHS adds further distress to those suffering lifelong injury. We want to help as many women as possible have their voices heard and full recognition for the injury caused by mesh.
