Mesh operations at North Wales Health Board
Mesh operations at North Wales Health Board investigation. We are carrying out an investigation on behalf of women who have received mesh as part of gynaecological procedures from 2016 to date.
We are investigating the claims by S4C’s Y Byd ar Bedwar that 13 patients had a TVT operation at the Health Board since 2018.
Operations involving artificial vaginal mesh even though the procedures were paused by the Welsh Government in 2018.
The Welsh Government announced that TVT and TVT-O operations, which involve inserting mesh to treat urinary incontinence in women, would be paused until a set of conditions to ensure that patients receive safe and high-quality care are met.
The Welsh Government says vaginal mesh to treat stress urinary incontinence should only be used if there is no viable alternative and after close and comprehensive consultation between patient and clinician. Some procedures are allowed under certain circumstances and under high vigilance scrutiny arrangements, but this will be a clinical decision.
