Negligence at North Devon Healthcare NHS Trust follows after a gynaecologist was been suspended for 9 months for misconduct which included failing to recognise a maternal collapse and using excessive force during a delivery.

From 2014 Dr Gendy held locum contracts in obstetrics and gynaecology at a number of NHS hospitals as well as providing care in the private sector.

Dr Fakher Gendy was working on a long-term locum contract at the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust between 2019 and 2021. His misconduct involving four patients, in four separate cases.

The tribunal heard opinion that he became like a “rabbit caught in headlights”. During the treatment the patient  suffered maternal collapse with the loss of 2.8 litres of blood.

It also heard how Dr Gendy failed to spot the woman was bleeding heavily. She was being prepared for a caesarean section resulting in supporting staff having to step in.
