Eight in ten hospitals are relying on outdated medical equipment to treat patients.

Data reveals almost 400 X-ray machines, MRI scanners and radiotherapy machines are more than a decade old.

At Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust one machine dates back 30 years whilst a hospital trust in Plymouth still uses an 18-year-old machine.

With the level of funding in the NHS it’s is surely a scandal to make life-saving diagnoses on such old machines.

The cost of the maintenance backlog alone is estimated to currently stand at £10.2bn.
