Transvaginal Mesh Claims Settlement in the US has become one of the largest mass torts settlements in US history.

Whilst Transvaginal mesh (TVM) implants became a popular solution for those suffering from stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse it gave rise to significant risks. Many patients experienced a range of debilitating symptoms, including pelvic pain, bleeding, vaginal discharge, worsening urinary incontinence, and fecal incontinence. All those affected required additional surgeries to remove the implants or address internal injuries.

In the US more than 100,000 lawsuits targeted medical device manufacturers. The overwhelming quantity of cases were consolidated into multiple multidistrict litigations (MDLs) — making it one of the largest mass torts in history.

In the following years, several medical device manufacturers reached settlements with plaintiff firms. One resulted in a product liability settlement that was unparalleled at that time in the United States.

Significant actions have taken place in Australia, Canada, and the UK. As of 2026, while 95% of lawsuits are estimated to be resolved, legal action continues for new claimants.
