TVT Surgery 2003 results in compensation award for pain, dyspareunia, indwelling catheter and psychological trauma.

The Claimant brought a claim for clinical negligence against the Defendant in relation to treatment carried out/care provided at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) around 24rd June 2003.

It was alleged that there was a failure to offer stand-alone prolapse repair surgery rather than only in conjunction with TVT surgery and to identify the likely cause of the Claimant’s voiding dysfunction prior to TVT surgery. The Claimant claimed there was a failure to offer alternatives and to warn about the risks and complications of TVT surgery. She maintained that she would not have had the TVT had she been so warned.

The Claimant suffered worsening urgency and urge incontinence as well as worsening voiding dysfunction following the TVT surgery requiring her to have suprapubic and indwelling catheters for significant periods of time and which has led to still increased levels of CISC. She has suffered vaginal pain and discomfort with associated dyspareunia. The Claimant has suffered and continues to suffer from depression and personality change as a result which requires treatment.

The Defendant denied breach of duty and causation as well as condition and prognosis. After years of hard fought litigation, the claimant successfully settled her case. She is yet another woman whose strength and fortitude eventually resulted in successful conclusion of her claim.
