Waiting Lists
Waiting Lists are a huge problem.
Data from December 2025 showed that 743 312 women were still waiting for gynaecology care in the UK. Is it going to be possible to ever reduce this backlog?
Reducing the NHS backlog involves a multi-faceted approach, focusing on increasing capacity (surgical hubs, independent sector, evening/weekend shifts), improving efficiency (digital tools, streamlining pathways, reducing no-shows), and optimizing patient flow (better preparation for surgery, empowering patient choice for alternative providers, day-case surgeries).
Key strategies include expanding Community Diagnostic Centres, using technology for booking/tracking, better staff role redesign, and enhanced patient preparation for faster recovery.
However, this depends on the overarching management of the backlog, funds and appetite to do so.
